William “Bill” James Mello, 60, of Charleston, S.C. passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2018. William was born on Dreux AFB, France on July 30, 1958. He spent most of his earlier years in California until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1984. During his time in the Navy he served as a Sonar Tech on the USS Marino Vallejo. In 1987 he married Bonnie, his wife of 31 years. Upon leaving the U.S. Navy in 1990, Bill attended The Citadel’s evening program receiving his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1997. Bill joined SPAWAR Systems Center Charleston in 1997 as an Electrical Engineer. Bill loved his family, friends and co-workers. He often played practical jokes with his co-workers and remained a child at heart with his family. He loved his 1961 Pontiac Bonneville which he was restoring. He enjoyed video games, especially when he could share them with his son, as well as savoring the finest cheeses with his daughter. His knowledge and skills were vast and he was always working on home projects. Bill will be greatly missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and his pets.
