Dr. William George Brooks, 78, husband of Marjorie Counts Brooks of Summerville, SC, died Friday, May 2, 2008 at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon, May 5, 2008 at Bethany United Methodist Church at three o’clock. Burial will be in Cottageville Cemetery. Friends may call at Parks Funeral Home Sunday evening from 6-8 o’clock. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 110, Columbia, SC 29204 or to Bethany Methodist Church Building Fund, 118 W. 3rd South St., Summerville, SC 29483. Dr. Brooks was born July 27, 1929 in Gadsden, Alabama, a son of Walter Elvin Brooks and Ruth Peirce Brooks. He was a retired optometrist. He was a graduate of Summerville High School, The Citadel and Southern College of Optometry. He was a Shriner and a life time member of the South Carolina Optometric Association. He was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church and the Sue Knight Sunday School Class. Among his survivors are his wife, Marjorie C. Brooks of Summerville; his daughter, Margaret B. Singleton and her husband Johnny of Summerville; grandchildren, Jordan Singleton and Trey Singleton, both of Summerville; brother, Dr. Ely Brooks of Mt. Pleasant; nieces and nephews, Barry Bennett, Walter E. Brooks, Jr., Tommy Brooks, Robert Brooks, John Wertz, Michael Brooks, Sam P. Brooks and Jill Brooks.
