William F. (Bill) Holman, 76, formerly of Tallahassee, FL, died on July 6, 2019.
Born July 13, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, Bill was a 1960 graduate of Central High School in Memphis. He graduated from The Citadel with a B.S. in Mathematics in 1964. While at The Citadel, he ran Track and Cross Country and was a member of the Echo Company. In 1966, he received a Master’s in Business Administration from Tulane University.
Following his graduation from Tulane, Bill began service in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Patrick Air Force where he worked at Cape Canaveral in the space program. In 1969, he was a part of the Apollo 11 launch.
He resigned from the Air Force in 1972 and began working for Control Data Corporation as a computer programmer. He was with Control Data until 1994. During his employment with Control Data, he lived in Greensboro, North Carolina; Nashville, Tennessee; Tampa, Florida and Tallahassee, Florida. He retired from Control Data in 1994. He then began working for the State of Florida as a programmer. When he retired from the state, he began volunteering for WFSU radio as a reader. He was an avid golfer and loved to play when he could.
Bill is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Katherine Ward Holman and by his parents, George Dudley and Frances Eller Holman. He is survived by his daughter, Edith Holman Xanders and her husband Ed of St. Johns, Florida; his son, Andrew Holman and his wife Amie of Chesapeake, Virginia. He is also survived by his four grandchildren: Emily Xanders, Katie Xanders, Jackson Holman and Jane Holman. Also surviving are his sister, Jane Holman Ball and her husband, Charles of Knoxville, Tennessee; his sister-in-law, Ellen Ward of Austin, TX and his nieces and nephew.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 24 at 10:00 am at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 211 North Monroe Street, in Tallahassee, FL. Inurnment will follow at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road in Tallahassee, FL.
