A graveside service for Lt. Col. William “Bill” Foster Anderson, III, U.S. Army (Ret.), 75, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Bill passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late William Foster Anderson, II and Betty Kitchens Anderson. A graduate of The Citadel, he served 21 years with the U.S. Army in Germany, South Korea, Virginia, and North Carolina. His final duty station was at the Pentagon with the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics. He was awarded the Legion of Merit (three oak leaf clusters). He contributed generously to his community as an elder at Burke Presbyterian Church, Virginia; leader of Boy Scouts in North Carolina and Virginia; and president of Master Gardener Association, Fairfax, Virginia as well as kindly helping where needed.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Bunton Anderson; son, William Allen Anderson (Cathy); grandchildren Christopher, Sarah, Laura and Erin Anderson; sisters-in-love, Carole Scott (Kean deceased), and Priscilla Bumbaca (Leonard); and nephews, Kean and Zachary Scott and Linus Bumbaca.
The family wishes to thank Agape Hospice caregivers, Wildewood Downs long-term care staff; and the emergency department staff at MUSC Health, Columbia for their care and support.
