A memorial service for Colonel William Will Everett Sommer, United States Army Retired, will be held Saturday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m., at St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, 1630 Silver Bluff Road, Aiken, with the Rev. Nancy Kenney officiating. Interment will follow at Montmorenci First Baptist Church Cemetery, Old Barnwell Road. George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel, 211 Park Ave. S.W., Aiken, is in charge of arrangements. Colonel Sommer, 78, of Montmorenci, died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 24, 2005, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. Will was born in Montmorenci on June 26, 1927. He was the son of the late William LeRoy and Rosalie Woodward Sommer. He was also predeceased by his sister Rosa Evelyn Sommer Hutto. Will graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, Charleston in 1956. He received his Master of Science degree in civil engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans, La. He proudly served his Country for 27 years in the United States Army & Reserves, attaining the rank of Colonel. Will was also a Professional Civil Engineer with the United States Army Corps of Engineers for 34 years. He retired from the Savannah District as Chief of the Design Branch. Will was a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Audrey Alda Alexander Sommer. He is also survived by his daughters, Johanna Germaine Sommer of Montmorenci, Alda Alexandra Sommer Walters (Keith) of Aiken, and Maj. Ellen Evelyn Sommer Clark (Grant) of Savannah, Ga. His grandchildren are Michael Merritt Bruce, Victor John Wyszynski IV, Kylie Sommer Clark, Scott William Clark and Glen William Clark. Honorary pallbearers are T. Clifton Weeks, Victor Alexander Jr., Dr. Laurens Edward Linebaugh Jr., Dr. William Robert Gaines and Louis Meraux McNair.
