William David Barnhill, 73, of Tifton, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Tift Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Oakridge Cemetery with Rev. John Hughes officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Albritton Funeral Directors. Scott Barnhill, Matt Fowler, Harold Abbott, Ken Murphy, Roger Fowler, Scott Chestnutwood will serve as pallbearers. Mr. Barnhill was born on August 9, 1944 to Margaret Jones Barnhill and the late Emory Vernon Barnhill in Oakland, California. Mr. Barnhill was preceded in death by one brother, James E. Barnhill who died in 2016. Barnhill was a member of First Baptist Church of Tifton. He was a 1962 graduate of Treutlen High School. While he was in school he played football, baseball, basketball, softball and tennis. Mr. Barnhill was a longtime member of The Boy Scouts of America. David graduated from college at The Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1967 and received his Master’s degree from Georgia Southwestern in 1975. He was the creator of Win-right, a football stencil that football coaches in the U.S. and overseas used to design plays. He enjoyed and took great pride in teaching and was an inspiration to many students. David possessed an outstanding work ethic and would many times have more than one job. He retired after a forty-nine-year teaching career. In addition to his mother, Mr. Barnhill is survived by one sister-in-law, Waldene Barnhill; one nephew, Scott and Adrienne Barnhill of Jacksonville; one niece, Jamie and Matt Fowler of Tifton; three great nephews, Fletcher Barnhill, Hudson Fowler, Collin Fowler. Albritton Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
