WESTMORELAND, W. Entered into eternal rest on the evening of July 18, 2005, General William Childs Westmoreland, US Army (Ret.), husband of Katherine Kitsy Van Deusen Westmoreland. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of General and Mrs. William Childs Westmoreland are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Thursday, July 21, 2005 in St. Michael’s Episcopal Church at eleven o’clock. Interment services will be Saturday, July 23, 2005 in the United States Military Academy Cemetery, West Point. At the family’s request, there are no calling hours. General Westmoreland was born March 26, 1914 in Spartanburg County, SC, the son of James Ripley Westmoreland and Eugenia Childs Westmoreland. He was a graduate of U.S. Military Academy, West Point, The Command and General Staff College and Harvard University. He served during World War II, Korea and Viet Nam. Gen. Westmoreland was a member of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; two daughters: Katherine Stevens Westmoreland of Kennebunk, ME and Margaret Childs Westmoreland Richards of Sanford, FL; one son: James Ripley Westmoreland, II of Brooklyn, NY; one sister: Mrs. Margaret N.H. Clarkson of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren: William Tyler, Will, Katherine, Molly, Miles, and Lucio.
