William Bruce Newton, Jr. of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest Friday, December 30, 2016. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 8 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at The Gadsden House, 329 East Bay Street (please use rear access located at 38 Alexander Street). Dr. Newton was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, son of the late William B. Newton and Sadie Bradley Newton. He is a graduate of The Citadel, and studied medicine at the Medical College of South Carolina, specializing in Psychiatry. Dr. Newton was in private practice in Charleston for 34 years and was a prolific sculptor and artist as well. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie-Rose Labasse Newton, and is survived by his children: Denise Avera, Suzanne Shuler, Bruce Newton, Philip Newton, Annette DeVore and Paul Newton, eleven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his siblings Betty Rose Newton Summersett of Columbia, SC and Charles Robert Newton and John Russell Newton of Orangeburg, SC.
