William Blaine “Bill” Carter, 60, of Columbia, died Sunday, August 12, 2018. Born on December 23, 1957, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of Margaret Kelley Carter of Columbia and the late Hugh William Carter, Jr. Bill was a 1976 graduate of J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, SC. He deeply treasured his high school years and maintained close relationships with many of his classmates. Bill then attended The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, where he graduated in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Over the last 20 years, Bill was the owner and operator of Silicon Solutions in Columbia. He was a devout member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where he routinely volunteered for many church activities, including ushering, the Men of Trinity, and the Trinity Bazaar. Bill loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed cycling and hiking. Most recently, Bill had become very passionate in participating in marathon hikes raising money for CureSearch for Children’s Cancer. He was a member of numerous clubs in the Columbia area including the Forest Lake Club, Quadrille Club, Pine Tree Hunt Club, Columbia Cotillion, and St. Andrew’s Society. Bill’s patience, kindness, and willingness to be of service will be cherished by all his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife of 25 years, Trina Thorne Carter; daughter, Cille Austin Clark (Emery, Jr.) of Columbia; granddaughters, Cecilia Austin Clark and Ella Katharine Clark; brothers, Jimmy Carter (Margaret) of Columbia and Tom Carter (Alexandria Galfas) of New York, NY; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
The memorial service for Bill will be held at 2 o’clock, Wednesday, August 15th, at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter St., Columbia, SC with The Very Reverend Timothy Jones officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Satterlee Hall of Trinity Cathedral.
