Wendy Styles Pumphrey, 52, of Asheville, NC, died Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
Wendy was born June 1, 1966, to Wilma G. and Douglas Eugene Styles in DeLand, Florida. She attended Charleston schools, received a Bachelor’s degree from College of Charleston, and a Master’s of Art in Teaching from The Citadel. Wendy taught at Asheville High School and was a member of Groce United Methodist Church.
Wendy is survived by her parents, of Mills River, NC; her children, Edward Spenser Pumphrey of Columbia, SC, and Shanna Teresa Pumphrey of Asheville, NC; her brother, Gregory D. Styles (Jennifer), of San Antonio, Texas; her aunt, Mary Ruth Morton of Asheville, NC; and her cousins, Shanna and Shane Simpson of Charlotte, NC.
A private family celebration of Wendy’s life will be held at Groce United Methodist Church (954 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC, 28805) and any acknowledgments or honorary gifts should be sent there.
The family extends a special thanks to Asheville Hematology and Oncology, St. Joseph’s Oncology Unit, and Care Partners of Asheville, as well as to Edward and Kara Pumphrey for their support.
