Retired Lt. Colonel Wendell L. “Skee” Weaver, Jr. 67 died Saturday, Sept. 18 in Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Skee was born on March 14, 1943, in Portsmouth, VA, a son of the late Wendell L. Weaver and Marjorie Y. Weaver of Columbia. He was a 1964 Citadel graduate and retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service. His tour of duty stretched from Texas, Kentucky, Virginia, Vietnam, Maryland, California, Germany, Pennsylvania, and finally retiring in Columbia, S.C. Skee then retired from CEE-US, West Columbia, S.C. Skee was a Shriner at Jamil Temple, Columbia, S.C and was an active member of Mill Creek United Methodist Church, Columbia, S.C. Skee’s love was for his family; however, he was blessed with a passion for hunting and the outdoors. For over fifteen years, Skee enjoyed annual hunting trips and sporting clay shoots throughout the southeast with industry friends. The friendship and fellowship that grew was greatly cherished and enjoyed. Skee is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bertha “”Bert”” Cauthen Weaver, Cayce; son, Alex Weaver (Nan) of Columbia, two grandchildren Trey and Morgan, his mother of Columbia, a brother, George A. (Joan) Weaver, Kernsville, NC and a number of nieces and nephews; predeceased by son Wendell L. “”Trey”” Weaver, III. Graveside Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 20, 2010 at Zion United Methodist Church, Dorchester, S.C. The family will receive guests/visitors before the service in the church social hall. Arrangements by Bryant Funeral Home, St. George, S.C.
