Col. (USAF, Ret.) Walter R Davis, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on October 5, 2023. Walt was native of Williston, SC and graduated from the Citadel Military College of South Carolina in 1955 where he was the Captain of the Summerall Guard silent drill team. He was a decorated pilot in the USAF Air Force and served two tours in support of combat operations in Southeast Asia. He earned the Silver Star for valor in combat as an A-1E Sandy pilot supporting search and rescue operations in Vietnam. He was also decorated with 3 Distinguished Flying Crosses, 15 Air Medals, and the Legion of Merit. Walt tested and flew the F-86, F-101, F-102, F-104, and F-106 aircraft in Air Defense Command for the majority of his 30-year career in the USAF. Walt is survived by his wife, Mrs. Betty Davis, and children Walt Jr of Columbia, SC, Debbie Patterson, of San Antonio, Tx, and Susan Dodder, of Colo Springs. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The family received visitors on Oct 8, 2023, at his home in Colorado Springs. A private memorial remembrance will be held at a later date.
