Wendell Kirby “Jake” Harvey, 83, of Summerville, SC, former owner and operator of Harvey’s Lucky Dollar, died Thursday afternoon in a North Charleston hospital. His funeral will be 1:00 PM Monday afternoon, December 26, 2016, in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner. Interment will be 1:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, December 27, 2016, in Cameron Memorial Cemetery, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 AM until the hour of service on Monday. Mr. Harvey was born December 19, 1933, in Summerville, SC, a son of Norman Lloyd Harvey and Cleo Hill Harvey. He was a US Army veteran and a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church. After being discharged from the service, he returned home to join his father in the family business and in farming. Mr. Harvey received his BS from The Citadel in 1956, and was a former state director of Farm Bureau, and a former board member of the Berkeley County Water & Soil Conservation District. He was a former trustee of the Cypress Campground, and especially enjoyed the many years he spent at “camp meeting” with his family and friends. Surviving are, his wife of 54 years, Bennetta Clary Harvey; a daughter, Marietta Harvey Hicks and her husband, Todd, of Moncks Corner; a son, Edwin Kirby Harvey and his wife, Donna, of Lebanon; three sisters, Nona Peagler of Moncks Corner, Bennie Ordel of Walterboro, and Pat Welch of New Hope; two brothers, C.H. “Buckshot” Harvey of Walnut Creek, CA, and Troy Harvey of Irmo; and two grandchildren, Danielle and Wesley Harvey.
