William Douglas “Doug” McAfee, 79, beloved companion, father, brother, and grandfather passed away on April 21, 2016.
Born in Greenville on February 25, 1937, he was a son of the late Juliet Hollis McAfee and Charles Hill McAfee.
A graduate of Greenville High School, Doug was Captain of the Red Raiders Football Team and then attended college at The Citadel. He was an avid golfer, a fan of all sports, enjoyed telling stories, and lit up a room with his laughter. Doug worked for approximately 30 years in his family business, McAfee Manufacturing. Later, he was a successful salesman at Breakaway Honda earning top honors until his retirement. He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Florence Howard; brother, Charles Hill McAfee, Jr. (Toni); son, William Douglas McAfee, Jr. (Suzette); daughters, Juliet Hollis McAfee, and Elizabeth McAfee Milburn (Tim); grandchildren, Jenkyns McAfee, and Dylan and Halle Hodsdon; as well as several nieces and a nephew. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson Justin Douglas McAfee.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2016 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown followed by a service in celebration of his life at 12:00 noon in the Chapel.
