Vincent Harvel Billingsley, of West Ashley, S.C. 29414, died April 11, 2022. He was a retired Air Force Major and served in World War II, The Philippines, Korean Conflict and the Viet Nam War. Born in Tampa, FL Dec. 4, 1926, Maj. Billingsley grew up in Savannah, GA, 8 years in the Bethesda Boys Home. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army at the end of WWII, taking him to the Philippines. When the war was over he went to The Citadel and as war broke out in Korea, he was called into flight school and rejoined the Air Force. He flew two tours in Vietnam flying F4 fighter jets. He received the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross among many other awards and medals. He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Jeanette Cone, his brother, William T. Billingsley, his wife, Mary H. Billingsley and child, Susan Gem. He is survived by daughters, Lisa Watson of Clatskanie, OR and Leslie Billingsley of Blowing Rock, NC, and son, Vincent Harvel Billingsley, II of Charleston, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Old St. Andrew’s Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Rd. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 3pm.
