Dr. Thomas William “Bill” Brooks died January 10, 2016, at The Heritage at Lowman in Chapin, SC, after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Lucretia, daughter, Collette Wickstrom (Steve) Upton, MA; daughter, Stephanie Kenney (Robert) Medway, MA; son, Thomas Brooks (Debbie) Medway, MA; sisters, Sharon Norman, Dallas, GA, and Kathy Kenny, Eagle Creek, OR; and seven grandchildren. Born in Wyandotte, MI, Nov. 11, 1933, he was a son of Jesse Hindley Brooks and Buford Wallace Brooks. He graduated from The Citadel where he was a Distinguished Military Student, a member of the Regimental Staff, and a member of the Summerall Guard. He went on to graduate school at The Univ. of Florida where he received a Master of Science and Ph.D., both in chemistry. He served in the U.S. Army as a chemical officer. He spent 25 years in industry pursuing scientific research and traveled extensively at this time lecturing in Europe, India, Japan, China and South America. After moving to South Carolina, he worked for the state becoming an Assistant Commissioner of Agriculture for Laboratory Services. He was a member of Union United Methodist Church, 7582 Woodrow St. in Irmo, SC 29063 where a memorial service will be held January 22 at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow in the fellowship aall of the church.
