Thomas N. James III, 75, of 203 Delview Drive, passed away Dec. 30, 2009, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. Mr. James was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 2, 1934, son of the late Thomas N. James Jr. and Edna Jones James. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cherryville, a graduate of Lincolnton High School and a 1956 graduate of The Citadel. Mr. James also served in the US Army. Survivors include his wife of 33 years Irene Schmidt James of the home, three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sandra Snipes of Fairbanks, Alaska; Andy & Carrie Snipes of Winston Salem; Nathan & Judy Snipes of Suffolk, VA; a daughter Deborah Larsen of Shelby; a brother Don James and wife Jackie of Roswell, GA; a sister Carolyn J. Leonard and sister-in-law Mary Jayne James both of Lincolnton; also surviving are nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Harold James. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Stamey~Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to the service and other times the family will be at the home, 203 Delview Dr. Cherryville.
