Born and raised in Newport, Tennessee, Tom graduated from The Citadel, Charleston, South Carolina. Career Army, he retired in 1996, and then earned a B.S.W. magna cum laude at Colorado State University, Pueblo, Colorado, and an M.A. in psychology at Chapman University, Orange, California. At the time of his death, he was employed at Spanish Peaks Mental Health Center, Pueblo, Colorado. Tom was an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors; he enjoyed cards, reading and genealogy. Throughout his life, he endeavored to be kind. Tom was the son of the late Hugh and Aylene Johnson Taylor, Newport, Tennessee, and grandson of the late Alfred Hunter and Janie Chilton Taylor of Newport, Tennessee, and the late Thomas Woodson and Allie Smith Johnson of Morristown, Tennessee. He is survived by his loving wife, Su Ja, of Colorado Springs; brother, Hugh Parmenas Taylor, White Pine, Tennessee; cousins, Alfred Taylor Ford, Dr. Hobart Ford, Newport, Tennessee, and Dr. John Taylor Purvis, Knoxville, Tennessee; and his caregiver, Although a resident of Colorado Springs for some 16 years, Tom was a 7th generation Tennessean, and considered himself a Tennessean. He was descended from Col. Parmenas Taylor, Taylors Bend, Jefferson County, Tennessee, and who was appointed by President Washington to the upper Council of the Southwest Territory; Captain Jonathan Langdon, Virginia Continental Line, and member of the Society of Cincinnati in the State of Virginia (composed of Revolutionary officers); Col. Parmenas Taylor Turnley, U.S. Army and founder and former President of the Aztec Society (composed of veterans of the Mexican American War); and multiple members of First Families of Tennessee and First Families of Virginia. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 3, 2006 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. at Swan Law Funeral Directors. Services Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. in the Swan Law Cascade Chapel, 501 N. Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO. Interment at the Union Cemetery, Newport, TN.
