Mr. Thomas Harold Tommy Hydrick, Jr. a lifetime resident of Ruffin and husband of Betty Sanders Hydrick, died Thursday at his residence after a long illness. He was 71. Mr. Hydrick was born July 16, 1931 in Colleton County, a son of the late Thomas Harold Hydrick, Sr. and Pearl Crosby Hydrick. He was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church in Ruffin. He attended the Citadel and was a longtime member of the Association of Citadel Men. Mr. Hydrick was the Director of Public Works for the City of Walterboro for 32 years and served as interim city manager. He was Director and Vice President of First Federal of South Carolina in Walterboro and served as a Director of Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative for 30 years and also served as President of Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative. He was a member of Colleton County Farm Bureau and was State Director from Colleton County. He was a member of the Taxpayers Association and a member of Clemson University IPTAY Life Scholarship Fund for 26 years. Survivors, besides his wife, include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy Charles and Marcia Thrift Hydrick of Seneca and John Saunders and Katherine Hutto Hydrick of Columbia and three grandchildren, Tucker, Lauren and Thomas Hydrick. Funeral services will be held 3 PM Sunday in Doctors Creek Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. David Dinkins and Rev. Hans Wunch. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6 until 8 PM and Sunday until the body is placed in the church at 2 PM.
