Thomas D. Petty, of Burlington, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the Hospice Home. He was the husband of 49 years to Arnetta Fowlkes Petty who survives. Tom retired from the Guilford County School System as an energy management coordinator. He was a 1956 graduate of Williams High School and attended the Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. Tom was a member of Grove Park Baptist Church and a member of the Lamp Lighters Sunday School Class. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Arnetta Fowlkes Petty of the home; daughters, Karen P. Potter of Asheville, and Lisa D. Petty of Winston-Salem; and a granddaughter, Courtney Maxwell of Asheville. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Meagan Maxwell; parents, L.M. and Effie Oakley Petty. The Petty family would like to thank LifePath and to express their deep gratitude to all the staff and nurses of the Hospice Home for their tender loving care of Tom. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Grove Park Baptist Church by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and assisted by the Rev. Bill Vickrey and the Rev.David Morton. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. on Friday at Lowe Funeral home and Crematory and at other times at the home.
