Col. Thomas B. Hindman, Jr., 83, of Isle of Palms, passed away on Tuesday, November 28, 2017. There will be a Celebration of Life Service at 11am on Saturday, December 9th at Sunrise Presbyterian Church, Sullivan’s Island, SC. Born in Richburg, SC to Thomas B. and Bennie C. Hindman, Tom was a 1956 Band Co. graduate of The Citadel & retired from the US Army Reserves in 1994. He worked for the US Dept. of Energy managing high-level programs related to nuclear waste storage, disposal and cleanup, starting at the Savannah River Site and later transferring to DOE HQ in Germantown, MD. After retiring from DOE in 1989, he helped create the Management Systems Laboratory at Virginia Tech and later served as a consultant to Dr. James Edwards at MUSC. Tom enjoyed cooking, boating, gardening and reading. He loved spending time with family and long-time Citadel friends. He was a member of Sunrise Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Patsy Ballou Hindman; his sisters, Kaye Emmons of Lexington and Verna Morningstar (Herschel) of Fountain Inn; his children, Linda Hindman of New Ellenton, Catherine Furtick (Paul) of Greer, Thomas C. Hindman (Eileen) of West Columbia, Donna Khalil (Richard) of Germantown, MD and Katherine Litzinger (Christopher) of Waynesboro, PA. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
