Theodoric (Ted) Charles Neal Jr. of Albany, Ga., died December 24, 2009 due to cardiac disease. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Albany with interment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. Dr. William “”Butch”” Knight will be officiating. He was the son of the late Theodoric Charles Neal Sr. and Mary Louise Crowell Neal Morris of Charlotte, N.C. He was predeceased by his wife Nan McCoy Rogers Neal and his brother William W. Neal. He is survived by his wife Sara Ann Chitty Neal and his devoted cousin Jean Beckham as well as his sons and their wives, William Benjamin and Joyann Neal of Albany; Charles and Caroline Neal of Wilmington, N.C.; and Joseph Crowell Neal of Holly Springs, N.C. Grandchildren include Leslie Neal McDaniel, Charles Wade Neal, Caroline L. Neal, Caitlin Sara Nan Neal, Lydia Carraway Neal, and Marie Crowell Neal; great-grandchildren are Elizabeth and Lindsey McDaniel. He was supported greatly by Nona, Eugene, Tripp and Andy Jernigan. Born August 14, 1923, Ted was raised in Charlotte, N.C., attended the Citadel, and served in the Pacific during World War II. He was a resident of Albany, Ga. for over 55 years where he was initially an insurance agent and ultimately attended the University of Georgia and became a pharmacist. He was a devoted member of two churches, Covenant Presbyterian and First Baptist Church of Albany, the former of which he was a founding member and served as elder, Sunday school teacher and loyal choir member. Mr. Neal will be remembered for his love of gardening, his enthusiasm for music, his enjoyment of Christmas, his ever-present smile, and his devotion to his wives and family. The family would like to especially thank all family and friends who supported T.C. throughout the years, particularly the members and staff of First Baptist Church and of Covenant Presbyterian Church, and long-time supporters Margie Hill and Suzie Boney. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kimbrell-Stern. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Albany, 145 Oakland Pkwy, Leesburg, Ga. 31763 or Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2126 W. Edgewater Drive, Albany, Ga. 31707.
