Thayer Reaves Arthur Jr, was born 84 years ago, Dec 1st, 1941, to Thayer, Sr. and Ruby Perry Arthur of Moncks Corner, South Carolina. He passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, while traveling with his loving wife.

Thayer was a 1963 graduate of The Citadel, following which he worked as an electrical engineer at several Lowcountry organizations and retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was active with the AKC where he and his wife would show their Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Pembroke Welsh Corgis in conformation, obedience, and agility.

Thayer was a familiar face at the bowling lanes and an avid hunter who treasured his time outdoors. A licensed general aviation pilot, he loved the freedom of the open sky. An accomplished scuba diver, he went on to become a scuba instructor. He opened a dive shop (The Wet Shop) on Rivers Avenue with friends and shared his knowledge, skill, and his deep love of the sea with everyone he taught. Whether he was in the cockpit, on a hunting trip, at the lanes or beneath the waves, Thayer lived life to the fullest.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ellen Arthur, with whom he spent over 50 years; his daughter, Tracey Arthur; his son, Tait Arthur, daughter-in-law, Linda Arthur and his grandson, TJ Arthur. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Guy Reaves Arthur.

Though his passing leaves a profound sadness, his family takes comfort in knowing that his life made a difference and that he will never be forgotten.

Arrangements will be announced by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry.
