Stephen Lane “Steve” Spivey, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 19, 2026, at his home in Manning, SC, leaving behind a legacy of deep devotion to his family and a lifelong love for the beauty of nature.
Steve was born January 8, 1946, in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late John Alford Spivey and Louise Shirer Spivey. A 1964 graduate of Greeleyville High School, he went on to graduate with the historic Citadel Class of 1968, carrying the values of honor and duty throughout his life. Steve gave over thirty years of dedicated service to Georgia Pacific before enjoying a well-earned retirement. He was also a Mason and a member of the Lake City Jaycees.
Beyond his professional life, Steve was a man who had a love for nature. Whether he was casting a line on Lake Okeechobee in Florida, marveling at America’s vast landscapes, or listening to good ole country music, he chased adventure with a quiet appreciation for life. Yet, he found equal joy in simpler moments—living on the farm and sitting peacefully on his back porch at the lake, watching the hummingbirds and enjoying the nature around him.
Above all, Steve was a family man. Nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and he cherished every opportunity to support them in all of their various sports and activities.
Steve is survived by his three children: daughters, Shelley (Edward) Parker of Salters and Shannon (Michael) Lizewski of Irmo; and son, Shaun (Donna) Spivey of Lexington. He was the proud grandfather of Edward (Nicole) Parker, Caleb (Jenny) Parker, John Lizewski, Matthew Lizewski, Christian Spivey, and Bryson Spivey; and the loving great-grandfather of Maelynn Parker, Dallas Parker, and Elizabeth Parker. He also leaves behind two brothers, John Alford “Al” (Nancy) Spivey, Jr. of Hickory, NC, and Berry Ernest “Bunny” (Leslee) Spivey of Salters; several nieces; and a special friend, Diane Graham of Kingstree.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Williamsburg Funeral Home in Kingstree, followed by burial in Kingstree Memorial Gardens. Steve’s family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM at the funeral home just prior to the service.
