Stephen Edgar Love, of Florence, passed peacefully on December 24, 2023. Steve was born on February 27, 1944 to M.L. Love, Sr. and Susan McIntosh Love in Florence, S.C. The youngest of three, he loved his family, woodworking and giving back to others.
Steve is survived by his brother, M.L. Love, Jr. The father of three boys, Steve is survived by his middle son, Jim (Candice) Love, and his youngest son, Ed (Martina) Love. Affectionately known as Big Daddy, Steve is also survived by his grandchildren, Christian Love, Jasmine Love, Andrew Love, Zadie Love, Matthew McKenzie, Henry Love, Haley McKenzie, Jacob Love and Katie Lynn Love. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Kaycen and Kamden Hayek. Steve’s surviving nieces and nephews include Mel (Mary) Love, Lisa Worley, Mark Love and Laura Truesdale. Steve was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Virginia Love; and his oldest son, Mike (Mary) Love.
Steve graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1962. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Class of 1966 from the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. His community giving was led with his efforts through the DuPont Retirees Club, a company with which Steve was employed for over thirty years. He was a faithful donor to numerous organizations.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Waters-Powell Funeral Home in Florence, S.C. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a burial at Mt. Hope Cemetery where he will rest alongside his parents.
