He graduated from Carlisle Military School class of 1953 in Bamberg, SC. He attended The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina and graduated in 1957 where he was Captain of Charlie Company and the recipient of many honors including Chairman of Honor Committee; Member of President’s Advisory Committee; Member of Summerall Guards – Precision Military Drill Team; Member of the Round Table; Distinguished Military Student Award; Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award; Distinguished Cadet Officer at Tyndol Air Force Base Summer Camp – Florida; and Who’s Who in America’s Colleges and Universities. Upon graduating from The Citadel, he accepted his commission as Lieutenant and served in the United States Air Force as a jet pilot in the flight program and as Assistant Provost Marshall at Selfridge Air Force Base in Harrison Township, Michigan. He graduated from Medical College of Georgia in 1966 and then moved to Savannah to complete his residency at Memorial Medical Center. He served as Chief Resident his last year and became board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In his retirement, he also served as a member of the Medical Staff Advisory Committee at Candler/St. Joseph’s Hospital and was honored by the Georgia Medical Society with a Health Care Hereos Award in 2009. He held a lifetime membership with the Association of Citadel Men, was a proud member of The Gold Corps, and enjoyed staying in contact with his many Citadel and MCG friends and attending alumni reunions. He was proud of his Scottish ancestry, was an avid reader, enjoyed wood-working, loved to travel abroad, and especially loved spending time at his home away from home in Highlands, NC.
