Shirley S. Bledsoe, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 29, 2023. Her funeral service will be held Friday, April 7, 2023 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends an hour before the service. Interment will follow the service at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston. Shirley was born August 13, 1934 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Crayton Norwood Slaughter and the late Alice Vernelle Reynolds Slaughter. A graduate of Winthrop University class of 1956, she also received her Master’s degree from The Citadel. Shirley taught at Orange Grove Elementary School, and was a guidance counselor at CREOC. She was a longtime active member of North Charleston United Methodist Church, and member of the SC Retired Educators Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bridge and meeting with her “hen club”. She will be remembered for her dedication to educating children and the way she loved her family. She is survived by three daughters: Lisa Parr-Smith (William) of Isle of Palms, SC, Keri Bledsoe Blocker of Charleston, SC, Tracie Collins (Billy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren, Matthew Parr, Meghan Shapero, Riddick Blocker, Kathryn Blocker, Tyler Collins, Sarah Collins, and Hunter Bledsoe; four great-grandchildren, Izaria, Abby, Nolan, and Malcolm; and siblings, Larry Slaughter and Mary Crayton Watts.
