Scott Stephen Simms, 50, of Mt. Airy, Md., died on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at his home. Born June 11, 1974 in Willingboro, New Jersey, he was the son of William Stephen Simms, Jr. and Donna Lewis Simms. He was the husband of Dana Simms and father to Will and Natalie Simms. Scott is also survived by sister, Holly Simms Carpenter, wife of Michael; brother, James Lewis Simms, husband of Diane; brother, John Matthew Simms, husband of Alysa; and aunt, Sharon Lewis. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, a grandniece, grandnephews and several long-time friends he considered family. Scott was an associate director in the healthcare industry. He was a member of Freedom Lodge #112 A.F. & A.M. in Sykesville where he was serving as Junior Steward. He attended Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Airy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, duckpin bowling and taking rides on his Harley. On Sunday afternoons, you would find him watching Nascar or football. He also loved spending time at the beach with his family and friends. In his youth, Scott was a gifted athlete, particularly with skateboarding. He also served as an acolyte at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, was active in Boy Scouts and played the violin with his school orchestra. Scott graduated from Glenelg High School in 1992 where he participated on the baseball and basketball teams. He went on to the Citadel and Salisbury University where he graduated with a BS in Accounting. Scott will be remembered as a fun-loving guy with a big heart and an easy smile. He had a wonderful sense of humor. His children, faith, friends, and family were very important to him. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 12, 2024, 10:00 AM at Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church, 16151 Old Frederick Road, Mt. Airy, Maryland 21771, with pastors Eric and Anke Deibler, officiating. Interment will follow at Springfield Cemetery in Sykesville. The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Jeffrey N. Zumbrun Funeral Home, 6028 Sykesville Road, Eldersburg, Maryland. A masonic memorial service will be conducted on Wednesday, 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
