BLACK, Samuel DALZELL, SC – Samuel Arthur Black, M. D. 65, husband of Carolyn Gordon Black, died Monday, November 12, 2007 at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Paris, Tennessee, he was a son of Hartwell A. Black and the late Edith P. Black. Dr. Black was a member of Dalzell United Methodist Church. He was a 1964 graduate of The Citadel and a 1968 graduate of the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a retired orthopedic surgeon in Sumter and was the current Medical Director of the Acute Rehab Unit of Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Dr. Black was a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the SC Orthopedic Association, the Sumter-Clarendon-Lee Medical Society, the South Carolina Medical Association, the Forest Landowner Association, the Sumter County Landowners Association, and The Citadel Alumni Association. His hobby was forestry-cultivating the land and enjoying the serenity of the forest. Surviving is his wife of Dalzell; his father and wife, Dorothy W. Black of Sumter; a son, Samuel A. Black, Jr. and wife Elena of Boston, MA; a daughter, Kelli Black Davis and husband Brad of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister, Karen Stevens of Orlando, FL; a brother, Denny Black and wife Lynda of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Nicholas Black, Miriam Black, and Andrew Davis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
