Graveside service for Lt. Col. Sam Lurey, U.S. Army (Ret.), 93, will be held Sunday at 12:30 p.m. in Beth Shalom Cemetery, Whaley Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beth Shalom Synagogue. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge. Lt. Col. Lurey, husband of the late Sylvia Bruckner Lurey, died Wednesday, January 4, 2006. Born in Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Morris and Molly Dolk Lurey. He was a member of The Citadel, Class of 1935 and retired after 23 years with the U.S. Army, serving in WWII, Korea, and with the State Department during Vietnam. He was a member of the Military Officers Association and Beth Shalom Synagogue. Surviving are sons, Col. Charles D. Lurey, U.S. Army (Ret.) and his wife, Rosemary C. Lurey, of Fairfax Station, Va., and Leslie B. Lurey of Dallas, Texas; daughter, Rosanne Lurey Goldstein and her husband, David, of Manalapan, N.J.; sisters, Sarah Campell of Greenville, S.C., and Ida Bolonkin of Palm Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Allison Lurey, Jonathan Lurey, Matthew Lurey, Elisha Goldstein, Melany Goldstein McCarthy, Jessyca Goldstein, and Ashley Goldstein; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Colin and Jack McCarthy and Lucy Goldstein Taylor.
