Ryland Ashur Patz, 79, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Friday, April 5, 2024.
Born May 25, 1944, in Macedonia, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Robert Ryland Patz and Virginia Gatlin Patz. Mr. Patz was a graduate of The Citadel Military College of South Carolina. He served his country as a Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers for six years during Vietnam. He retired from Mayport Naval Station as an Engineer. He loved his family and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He loved the neighborhood where he lived and made great friends there. He was a member of the Citadel Club Alumni Association.
Surviving are: his wife, Margaret Ann Escoffier Patz of Walterboro; children, Matthew Patz of Charleston, Cathy P. Cook (Scott Cook) of Holly Hill, John Patz of Charleston, Ralph E. Massenburg, III (Carol Cannon) of Meggett, and Renee M. White (Eddie Bessinger) of Walterboro; grandchildren, Maisy R. Patz of Charleston, Hunter Cook of Holly Hill, Olivia Nickerson (Josh) of Charleston, Joseph White (Haley Fender) of Walterboro, Amelia White of Walterboro, Justin Massenburg of Parkers Ferry, and Austin Massenburg (Anna) of Meggett; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Patrick Allen Patz (Rosa Mae Patz) of Macedonia; and sister, Ann Patz (Robin Patz) of Macedonia; as well as a sister-in-law, Mary E. Hicks of Walterboro.
A memorial service will be held 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, April 14, 2024, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.
