Russell Vernon Hunt, a lifelong Greenville, S.C. area resident, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012. He was born August 26, 1957, to parents Samuel Hodges Hunt and Joan Kay Toney. He attended J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C. and The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Russell was loved by family and friends alike for his sense of humor and his friendly nature. He enjoyed gardening, caring for animals, spending time in the North Carolina Mountains, cycling, and hiking. He was an avid reader and especially interested in history and political events. He is survived by his daughter, Virginia Anne Hunt of Brevard, N.C.; mother and stepfather, Joan Kay Toney and Robert Toney of Lady Lake, F.L.; sister, Kay McNulty, of Wilmington, N.C.; brother and sister-in-law, William Hunt and Cheryl Hunt of Flat Rock, N.C.; and seven nieces and nephews: Jessie Kirk Hunt, Sawyer Hunt, William McNulty, Dr. Samuel McNulty, Andy McNulty, Kenneth Martin, Benjamin Martin. He is predeceased by his sister, Kathryn “Joni” Lanning, formerly of Cocoa Beach, FL. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Oakdale Cemetery on Highway 64 West and Valley Street in Hendersonville, N.C. The family will be receiving friends at “Inn on Church” immediately following the service. The family wishes to omit flowers.
