Rose McNeill McCurry, 79, beloved wife of Olin J. McCurry, entered eternity July 11, 2016. Born November 2, 1936 in Abbeville, SC, a daughter of Frank Palmer McNeill and Marie McKenzie McNeill. Rose graduated from the Baptist College (Charleston Southern University) and earned her Masters in mathematics from The Citadel. She taught at Summerville High School for 13 years. A devoted Christian, she joined Bethany United Methodist Church in 1957 where she thoroughly enjoyed her years of membership and serving as a volunteer. She also faithfully attended and loved her long-time fellowship with members of the Sue Knight Sunday School class and the Herbert McAlhaney United Methodist Women’s circle. Rose’s deepest joys were her children and grandchildren. She also was an avid fan of all Summerville sports and missed very few football games from 1957 until last year when her battle with ALS kept her home, and she followed them on the radio. Rose loved traveling the world with Olin and experiencing other cultures, but she often said that there was no place she loved more than her home of the past 53 years where she was surrounded by many dear friends and loving family and where she died peacefully in her sleep with her husband, Olin, as always by her side. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Bethany United Methodist Church – Spell Chapel at 12 pm. Visitation will be held in the church fellowship hall from 10:30 am until time of service. Burial will follow at Summerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please remember her by contributing to Bethany United Methodist Church and writing Youth Designated Fund on the memo line of a check and mail to 118 W. 3rd South Street, Summerville, SC 29483. Survivors include her loving husband, Olin, with whom she enjoyed nearly 62 years of marriage; four children, Laura McCurry Knotts (Michael), Rosie McCurry Fout (Preston), Olin Thomas (Tom) McCurry (Jill), Frank Compton (Comp) McCurry (Caroline); 11 grandchildren, Steven Mac Knotts, Rosie Knotts, Charlie Fout, Charlotte Fout, Marie Fout, Johnston McCurry, Mac McCurry, Hundley McCurry, Olin McCurry, Graham McCurry, Campbell McCurry. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Marie McNeill, her brother, Frank Palmer McNeill, Jr. and her sister, Margaret McNeill King.
