Ronald “Ron” Earl Blackmore, 85, husband of Debra Monts Blackmore, of Mountain Rest, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024, at his home in the Long Creek Community.
A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Mr. Blackmore was the son of the late Nathan Wallace and Amelia Louise Kepper Blackmore. Mr. Blackmore was a veteran and pilot of the United States Air Force having fought in Vietnam. He completed 30 years of service with the rank of Colonel Retired. Mr. Blackmore flew for Air Georgia National Guard with the 165th Tactical Airlift Group in Savannah, GA under the 158th Tactical Airlift Squadron. He also flew the C124 plane that is currently on display in Charleston, SC. He received his BA from the Citadel as well as completed graduate work at Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Blackmore is survived by his sons: William James Blackmore (Judy) of Greenwood, SC and Stephen Joseph Blackmore (Amanda) of Hollis, NH; daughter: April Louise Blackmore of Austin, TX; grandchildren: Owen Edwards, Lucas Edwards and Emmeline Blackmore; former wife: Clarissa Blackmore; and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Walhalla, SC with a reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
The family will receive friends following the burial.
