Ronny Oates OATES Funeral services for Ronald Bentley Ronny Oates Sr., 74, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at Mount Elon Baptist Church. The Revs. Marvin Lynch, Robbin King and Dr. Bob Cline will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 38, Lydia, SC 29079 or Habitat for Humanity, 120 E. Washington St., Hartsville, SC 29550.Mr. Oates died Monday, Nov. 29. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Francis Marion and Evelyn Bentley Oates. He was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church where he was a deacon and choir member. He attended Hartsville High School and was a graduate of The Citadel. He served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. A retiree of DuPont in Florence, he was also a farmer in the Oates Community. He was a board member of the Pee Dee Electric Trust, a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity, a Master Gardener, and an avid fisherman and collector.Surviving are his wife, Lynn Williams Oates of Oates; sons, Ronald Bentley Oates Jr. of Darlington and Daniel Alan Oates of Simpsonville; daughter, Kathryn Oates Allison of Clemson; brother, Francis Marion Oates Jr. of Hartsville; grandchildren, Morgan Oates Harrison, Allison Oates Jordan, Ronald Bentley Oates III, Austin Thomas Oates, Lucas Marion Oates, Katelyn Jean Oates, Hannah Oates Allison and Matthew Oates Allison. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Bell Oates.
