Roger A. Shelor, 78, of Tega Cay, S.C., died peacefully Tuesday, May 26 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C. A Celebration Of Life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, at First United Methodist Church, 501 N. Tryon St., Charlotte. A service for Roger will follow at noon in the church sanctuary. Internment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park. The family will greet friends on Friday, May 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. at McEwen Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte. Roger was born on March 17, 1931, in Roanoke, Va., son of the late Arnold and Merrill Shelor. He was a 1949 graduate of Central High School in Charlotte. He was a proud graduate of the Citadel Military College in Charleston, S.C., in 1957 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After college, Roger worked for Southern Bell. In 1965, he began working at Carolinas Telco Federal Credit Union in Charlotte and eventually rose to the position of CEO, a position that he held until his passing. He was instrumental in the success and growth of Carolinas Telco through his leadership on numerous state and national credit union boards and councils. He was also very active for many years in his church, First United Methodist Church of Charlotte. Roger leaves behind many friends, business associates and family members who will cherish fond memories of his life. Survivors include his children, Randy, Ric and Sherre Shelor Costello and husband, Brian; and family pets Ciara, and Krystal. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley Shelor.
