Name Residence Rod Carlyle, Loganville,GA Date of Death: 11/25/2006 Notice Carlyle, Rod* Mr. Rod Carlyle, age 65, of Loganville, GA, formerly of the Atlanta area, died November 25, 2006. He is survived by: Two Sons, Drew Carlyle, Jr. and Scott Carlyle both of Atlanta; Sister, Kimberly Ann Gillespie of Mattoon, IL and numerous friends across the country. Roderick Drew Carlyle, Sr. was born on April 12, 1941, in Mattoon, IL to Kenneth Cameron Carlyle and Lillie Mae Trusner Carlyle. He graduated from the Citadel in 1963 and attended Emory University School of Law for two years. He was associated with K2, a ski equipment and apparel company for many years as a Sales Representative. While working with K2, he had the honor of skiing with the US Olympic Ski Team members. Rod was best known for being an outstanding tennis player and instructor. He served as a contributing AJC Sports Writer for tennis. He founded the Peach State News, a tennis focused newspaper, and utilized his knowledge of tennis complexes from around the country to develop and start the Old South Racquet Club. He served as resident Tennis Pro for Old South Racquet Club (now known as the Four Seasons Racquet Club), Summit Chase Country Club and the Atlanta Athletic Club. He was president of the Atlanta Ski Club, a longtime member of ALTA and USTA, where he held numerous single and double Championship titles. Most recently, he gave private tennis lessons and coached many local ALTA and USTA tennis teams. Rod was preceded in death by his parents.A Celebration Memorial Service of Rod’s life will be held Saturday, December 2, 2006, at 3:00 P.M. at Wages Snellville Chapel with Minister Harold Savage officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.
