Robert Winslow Welch, 85, died Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at a Williamsburg County hospital. A graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in Kingstree Memorial Gardens directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Mr. Welch was born in Kingstree, SC, a son of the late William H. and Elizabeth Winslow Welch. Mr. Welch was a graduate of The Citadel in 1942 as a Gold Star Student and a member of the Regimental Staff. Mr. Welch was the former President of Winslow Chevrolet Cadillac of Kingstree. He served in the Air Force from 1942-1946 and was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. He was also a charter member of the Optimist Club of Kingstree and a member of Kingstree United Methodist Church. Mr. Welch is survived by his wife, Vallie McCutchen Welch; two daughters, Louise Welch of Charleston, SC and Stark Welch of Dallas, TX; a stepson, Milton Mack Duke and a stepdaughter, Jimmie Lou Morris, both of Kingstree; four stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild and a brother, James White Welch of Kingstree, SC. He was predeceased by a daughter, Wynn Welch Powell; two brothers, William H. Welch, Jr., Edward C. Welch and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Welch Dixon Cheezem.
