Dr. Robert Vincent Williams, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., died July 5, 2013. He was born in Norwalk, CT on September 19, 1919 to his parents Augusta Vincent Williams and Dr. Robert James Williams. He died peacefully on July 5, 2013 after ninety-three years, living a full and accomplished life. He grew up in Hartford, graduated from Buckley High School and attended the Citadel in SC. He graduated from Temple University, College of Dentistry, Philadelphia, PA, earning his DDS. In addition he was President of the Jr. American Dental Assoc., and was a member of Xi Psi Phi fraternity, the Kolmer Honorary Society, and the Cameron Society of Oral Surgery. Dr. Williams served in the Army with the 382nd Regiment in Okinawa and Korea during WWII. After the war Dr. Williams moved to South Windsor, CT building the first professional center in town, the Wapping Professional Center where he saw patients for twenty years. Bob or Doc , as his many friends called him, was active in his community. He headed the South Winsor Industrial Commission, was a director of the Rockville Bank, was Chairman of the South Windsor School Board, and was the first president of Rotary, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and achieved the fourth degree within the Knights of Columbus. In 1972 he moved to Ponte Vedra, FL where for the next 20 years Dr. Williams had a rich and productive career, employing, training and mentoring many young assistants, hygienists and dentists. He founded Denticare of Florida the first prepaid dental insurance plan in the state, providing affordable dental care for thousands in seven states. Bob is survived by his wife Rosita Deets of 69 years; four children, Sharon Kennedy (Eldon), Robert Jr. (Barbara), Margaret Lehosit (Charlie) and Marianne; brother, Vincent Williams of Winter Park, FL; and was blessed by his eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bob and Deets lived in Ponte Vedra for 40 years, the last 13 at Vicar s Landing. He was a member of both the Ponte Vedra Club and Sawgrass CC, and was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. The couple traveled extensively through the US, Europe, South America and Indonesia. Bob loved his Jaguars, golf and bridge. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
