Robert S. Verrastro Sr., 75, of Waterbury, CT, passed away in the VITAS Innovative Hospice Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital on Tuesday, May 14, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Carmella (Longo) Verrastro. Bob was born in Waterbury on Feb. 5, 1938, son of the late Canio and Vita Creccenzia (Sabia) Verrastro. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, class of 1956, and the Citadel Military College in Charleston, S.C., where he received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was a member of the Citadel Alumni Association and served in the National Guard. He was a wage enforcer for the State of Connecticut, Department of Labor until his retirement in 2003. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, former president of Blessed Sacrament Home School Association, and former member of the church council. He was a member of the Lakewood Social Club. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Tower Grill on Freight Street. He was a devoted family man who loved his many visits to New York to spend quality time with his grandchildren. He loved traveling to Italy, spending his summer vacations in Cape Cod, attending many Zucchero Italian Rock Concerts with his wife, and frequenting the casino. He was an avid sports fan, especially the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and UCONN Husky men and women’s basketball. Besides his wife, Carmella, of 49 years, Bob leaves his son, Robert S. Verrastro Jr. and his wife, Rosemarie, of Fairfax, Va., and Waterbury his daughter, Kellie Como and her husband, Dr. John Como, of Pelham Manor, N.Y. three sisters, Josephine Summa of Newington, Sister Eleanor Verrastro of Waterbury, and Elaine Laudisi of Wolcott and two grandchildren, John Michael Como and Alexandra Como, both of Pelham Manor, N.Y. and many nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his four brothers, Domenic, Nicholas, William and George Verrastro, and his sister, Viola Verrastro LoRusso. Arrangements: Funeral will be held 9 a.m. Monday at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, to Blessed Sacrament Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
