Robert Royall O’Neal, 72, of Charleston died on Monday, March 2, 2009 at his home. Mr. O’Neal was born on September 9, 1936 in Mullins, South Carolina, the son of the late Harrllee Royall O’Neal and Harryett Noland O’Neal. He was a graduate of Porter Military Academy and the Citadel Class 1958 with a degree in civil engineering. Mr. O’Neal worked for Santee Cooper, Rader Corporation, Boeing Aero-Space, Ruscon Construction and most recently at J. Infinger and Associates as a quality control officer. He was a member of the Optimist Club of West Ashley where he served as a past president, board member, secretary and treasurer. He enjoyed his free time playing chess, reading, solving physical and word problems. He is survived by his daughter, Dianna Lynne O’Neal; his aunt, Ruth Noland; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation for Mr. O’Neal will take place on Friday, March 6th from 6-8PM at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC. A funeral mass celebrating his life will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 7th at St. John’s Catholic Church, 3921 St. John’s Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405. Burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Citadel Alumni Association, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.
