Robert Lemuel Meador, Sr., an 89 year-old native and lifelong resident of Mobile passed away Sunday, December 16, 2012. Mr. Meador graduated from Murphy High School and attended The Citadel until being drafted by the United States Army. He served as a lieutenant in the European Theater of Operations during World War II, earning a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for wounds received during the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Meador established Meador Warehousing and Distribution in 1955 and served as its owner/operator until his retirement in 1985. He was a longtime member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and enjoyed traveling the world with his late wife. Mr. Meador was preceded in death by his parents, William M. and Ruth Powell Meador; brothers, John D. “”Jack”” Meador and William M. “”Billy”” Meador, Jr.; beloved wife of 52 years, Helen O’Neill Meador; and daughter, Margaret Meador Drake. He is survived by his sons, Dr. Robert L. Meador, Jr. (Jenny) and Michael O. Meador, Sr. (Kathy); sisters, Mary Meador Kell and Ippy Meador Inge; brother, James Meador (Lynn); 8 grandchildren, Elizabeth Boykin Holyfield (Donald), Marian Meador Swartzentruber (Chet), Dr. Anna E. Meador, Robert L. Meador, III (Brittney), Dr. Michael O. Meador, Jr. (Ashley), John D.””Jack”” Meador, Breland G. Meador, and L. Manning Meador; 4 great-grandchildren, Stephen Holyfield, Robert Holyfield, and William Holyfield; and Thad Swartzentruber; special friend, Ms. Edrie Royals; amazing caregiver, Ms. Sally Barren; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held from St. Ignatius Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at 12 noon. The family will receive friends in the Marian Center from 11 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mulherin Custodial Home, 2496 Halls Mill Rd., Mobile, AL 36606.
