Robert Lee Dennis, Jr., 80, of Georgetown, passed peacefully June 18, 2011, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, at the Tidelands Community Hospice House. Robert L. Dennis, Jr., (RL) born September 26, 1930, in Macbeth, SC, Berkeley County, was the son of the late Nettie C. Dennis and Robert L. Dennis, Sr. Robert graduated Berkeley H.S., age 16, and went on to attend the Citadel in Charleston, SC. His education was interrupted by his service as an Air Force Medic in the Korean war where he met his first wife, the late Johanna Hjaltalin, while stationed in Keflavik, Iceland. After the war, he returned to the Citadel to finish his education as a Veteran Student graduating in 1956 with a BS Degree. He also earned a Chemical Engineering degree and taught at Trident Tech. Robert worked as a Chemist (Coburg Dairy, Mobay, Bayer) and in the Pharmaceutical Industry (Breon Laboratories) where he was a pioneer in Respiratory Therapy. Mr. Dennis believed in service to others, which showed in his 50 years as a Mason, a Gideon, American Legion, and VFW. RL was a lay minister in the United Methodist Church, and a member of Rehoboth Methodist Church, Macbeth, SC and Associate Member of Duncan UMC, Georgetown, SC. Mr. Dennis was also pre-deceased by his brother David A. Dennis, and his son Benjamin Daniel Dennis. He is survived by his wife Irma Kienitz Dennis of 18 years and his four children, Inga Dennis Bateman (Arthur “Skip”) of Longwood, FL, Robert L. Dennis, III of Longwood, FL, Helen Dennis Bone (Chris) of Murrells Inlet and Ryan C.Dennis of Pawleys Island, two sisters Adelaide (Tootsie) Dennis Kline (Sol) of Columbia, SC and Adah Dennis Brewer (Jerry) of Pinopolis, SC and six grandchildren, Ashley Bateman Carton, Sarah Bateman, David A. Bateman, Ingolfur Robertson, Benjamin Dennis, Victoria Bone. Memorial service to be held 9:30am Saturday, June 25, 2011at the family church, Rehoboth UMC, Old Macbeth Road, Macbeth,SC.
