Brigadier General Ret. Robert K. Lytle passed away and went home to be with our Lord after a difficult battle with cancer on Tuesday, 21 Feb. 2023.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina in 1960; he would pursue a prolific Military career after graduating from the Citadel Military College of South Carolina, class of 1982 and commissioned as an active duty Officer in the U.S. Army. In May 1985 He married the love of his life, Jana Lurska, the daughter of political asylum seekers of the former Czechoslovakia, in Germany. He settled with his young family in Idaho as a member of the Idaho National Guard and obtained the rank of Brigadier General in 2015.
General Lytle served with distinction as a veteran of the Persian Gulf War in 1991 and in the Iraq War of 2004-05 as part of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM III. General Lytle was awarded a Bronze Star for his service and was an indispensable part of an operation that helped secure free democratic elections for the Iraqi people.
General Lytle, was a lover of and an expert in U.S. history, the evolution of our military forces, wood working, firearms, the English Language, and southern wit. He was a dear friend and father figure to countless people throughout his lifetime. His impact will leave an indelible mark upon His family, friends and military patriots.
General Lytle is survived by his wife Jana Lytle, his two children Caroline Ehlies and Andrew Lytle, his mother Maxine Lytle, his brothers Al and Harry Lytle, his grandchildren Diana & Matthew Ehlies and his devoted friend Leiah.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Bowman Funeral Parlor, 10254 W. Carlton Bay Dr. in Garden City. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Friday, March 17, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 2612 W. State St. in Boise. Burial with military honors will follow at 1:00 pm, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 N. Horseshoe Bend Rd. in Boise.
