Robert J. Hamilton, Jr., 68, died Oct. 3 at Winter Haven Hospital as a result of renal and respiratory failure. He was born Nov. 22, 1939 in Winter Haven, FL to the late Robert and Mary (Lang) Hamilton. Having previously lived in New York City, Miami, FL and Maitland, FL, Mr. Hamilton had been a resident of Lake Alfred for the past 20 years. He graduated from Winter Haven High School in 1957 and from the Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1961. His first job was a skier at Cypress Gardens. He then worked for the Florida Citrus Commission before becoming a successful produce broker and commercial realtor, owning his own companies in both fields. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he was also eucharistic minister. He was a former president of the Maitland Rotary Club and Paul Harris Fellow, Maitland – South Seminole Chamber of Commerce, Maitland Civic Center, Maitland Little League. Mr. Hamilton was also a past president of the Florida Club. He was a member of the Central Florida Development Council. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Loree Stovall. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Florence McNeer Hamilton; a son, Robert J. Hamilton, III; a daughter, Deborah (Bill) Bailey; his sister, Rita Bass; 6 grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Lake Alfred. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul’s School or the Winter Haven Humane Society. Arrangements entrusted to Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Winter Haven. Tags: 1961
