Robert H. McLaughlin, Sr., of Fayetteville, N.C., passed away on the morning of Friday, December 16, 2016 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital. Bob graduated from The Citadel in 1960 with a commission in the US Army. He was a Woodrow Wilson Scholar and served 28 years as an Army Intelligence officer. He spent two tours in Vietnam and was posted in numerous assignments across the United States and Germany. After retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel, he earned a Masters of Education and enjoyed teaching History and Government. An avid history enthusiast, Bob loved traveling throughout both his military career and his retirement. He enjoyed the opportunity to see so much of the world during his life and sharing the experience with his family. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary D. McLaughlin; son, Robert H. McLaughlin, Jr. (Mac) and his daughter-in-law, Julia McLaughlin. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00PM on Tuesday, December 20, at MacPherson Presbyterian Church, 3525 Cliffdale Road, Fayetteville, NC 28303.
