Robert H. Davis, of Charlotte, N.C., died Sept. 25, 2022. He was born March 11, 1941 at old Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC, son of the late Ralph Davis and Anna Lee Glover Davis. He was predeceased by his unnamed infant sister and his brother, Ralph Davis, Jr. Robert graduated from St. Andrews University and earned his Master’s Degree from The Citadel. He taught history at St. Johns High School, where he himself had graduated. The St. Johns Class of 1959, only 23 members, kept up with each other. Many of them gathered at a house party reunion in 2019. Robert was a lifelong Presbyterian. He owned his own businesses, including a shrimp boat and a pipe and tobacco shop. He loved history and had a sizeable collection of Civil War books. Robert could fix anything mechanical and enjoyed small engine repair. His favorite hobby was camping. He and Alden traveled to the west coast 6 times, as well as many shorter trips. They saw all the places they had read about. He loved to meet new friends on the road. It can truly be said, he never met a stranger. Surviving is his wife, Alden. They were married 28 years. Also surviving is his sister, Elizabeth Davis Mann, his sons, Robert Hugh Davis, Jr. (Kim) and Rutledge Lane Davis (Christie), step-daughter, Delia Ann Prakash, grandchildren, Hailey Anne Davis, Carter Allen Davis, Ryan Rutledge Davis, Andrew Seabrook Davis, Katherine Elizabeth Davis, Katelyn Laura Prakash and Brendan Patrick Prakash, as well as a host of cousins, classmates and friends. Graveside service at 11 AM 10-8-2022 at Evergreen Cemetery, 4426 Central Ave., Charlotte, NC. Following the service, all attending are invited for refreshments at the home. Robert, you were a very special person and you lived a useful and interesting life. There will always be an empty place in our hearts, but you left the world a better place than you found it.
