Dr. Robert Glenburn Askins, DDS, 75, of Darlington, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Trinity United Methodist Church, conducted by the Reverend Jim Hardee and directed by KISTLER-HARDEE FUNERAL HOME. Dr. Askins was born in Lake City, SC, a son of the late Marion L. and Alliedo Ward Askins. He graduated from the Citadel, Class of 1956 and the Medical College of Virginia in 1960. Dr. Askins was a member of the American and South Carolina Dental Associations, the Pee Dee Study Group, the Darlington Chamber of Commerce, Sock and Supper Club, Cribbs Pond Fishing Club, and Witherspoon Island Hunt Club, and was a past member of the Darlington Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and a past Lay Leader. Dr. Askins practiced dentistry in Darlington for 49 years. Survivors include his wife, Ronna Vaughn Askins of the home; one son, Robert Gregory (Lyne) Askins; two daughters, Marsha Lee Askins and Marian Louise Askins; and three grandchildren, Christopher Carl Askins, Robert Zachary Askins and Joshua Thomas Askins.
