Date of Death N/A 12/20/2007 Notice Spires,Robert SPIRES, Robert WILLIAMS – Mr. Robert Franklin Spires, 78, or 462 Till Lane, Williams, died Thursday morning, December 20, 2007, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 23, 2007, from the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro, with The Rev. Ralph Warren officiating. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in Williams Cemetery, Williams. Mr. Spires was born January 24, 1929 in Whitmire, South Carolina, and was a son of the late Ezra Thomas Spires and the late Gertrude Mayfield Spires. He was a graduate of Saint Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa and was also a graduate of The Citadel, Class of 1971, where he received his Master’s Degree in Education. He served his country in the United States Navy, in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a retired educator having taught for Greenville and Colleton counties, where he served as Vice Principal of Ruffin High School; and was also a retired supervisor from the South Carolina State Department of Education, Transportation Division with the Colleton School Bus Shop. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Walterboro where he had the special job of keeping pew 6 from flying up and hitting the ceiling. He was a master mason, holding membership at Unity Lodge No. 55, A.F.M. in Walterboro, and was also a member of the Walterboro Lions Club. He will be remembered for his love of hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife of forty-three years, Mrs. Patsy O’Quinn Spires; three sons, Jabus Thomas J.T. Spires and his wife Teresa of Gaffney, Jonathan O’Quinn Spires and his wife Gigi of Summerville and Christopher Lee Spires and his wife Angie of Williams; a brother, James Timothy Spires of Lexington; and two sisters, Mary Frances Martin of Heber, Arizona and Sherrill Wofford of Columbia. There are three grandchildren, William Robert Spires of Gaffney, Jennifer Danielle Spires of Gaffney and Hunter Joseph Spires of Cottageville that also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Spires and William Barringer Spires.
