Robert D. Bottomley Jr, 85 of Manchester, Conn., loving husband for fifty four years of Christine M. (Sedlaczek) Bottomley, died Thursday, July 5, 2018 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Louisville, KY on September 12, 1932, son of the late Robert D. and Ellen (White) Bottomley. He was raised in Kentucky, graduated from The Citadel, and served in the US Army during the mid-1950’s. Bob and Christine came to Manchester in 1974, and prior to retiring he was a supervisor for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for over twenty five years. He was a B.S.A. Eagle Scout, a member of the North United Methodist Church in Manchester, and was a model train enthusiast. With his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter, Scott W. Bottomley and his wife Gwen of Chelmsford, MA, Barbara E. Turley and her husband Gene of Manchester, and six grandchildren, Alexander, Mitchell, and Nicholas Bottomley, and Elizabeth, Sarah, and Katherine Turley. He is also survived by his cousin Jane Lange and her husband Frank of Sarasota, FL. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 10, at 11:00 AM at the Holmes-Watkins Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester. Burial will follow in St. Bridget Cemetery in Manchester. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity.
